my rover 114 auto makes a awfull ratling noise when idling does anyone know wat is causing this and if it could lead to a breakdown?

Where's the rattling noise coming from?
Does it stop when you engage drive, move off, rev?
Does it do it from cold?

Does it only rattle during idle, or at other speeds? Is there an associated loss of power, or does the car drive as normal? Can you tell roughly where its coming from (engine bay, underneath, etc)?
If you only notice it at idle, maybe a loose exhaust heat shield?

it only ratles at idle it sounds to be coming from the engine bay/underneath its not the exhaust it stops when i pull away and the car drives normally

Could be an exhaust heat shield,possibly cat shield?
