Merc CDI - turbo oil leak - Al 42
Got a small oil leak from the turbo on my 270CDI which is visable from where where it joins the plastic air intake housing.
My local dealership (who are really helpful) advise me that the gasket has gone. They are happy to replace it under warranty (which is good) but have said that it will only go again, 'whithin a couple of months',(which is bad).

It would appear that this is an on going problem and, once out of warranty, not worth shelling out for (3 hrs labour)on a regular basis.

I imagine that there are quite a few CDI's out there with leaky turbo's. Is it likely that a turbo could suffer a sudden failure if left with a small leak or, as the amount of oil lost is quite small, is this not a long term problem?

If they've admitted it's going to be an ongoing problem and it arose within the warranty period surely it's up to them to fix it properly.
