whirring noise from gearbox - Fiat Punto - mick c
Hi all

1.2 manual punto 2002

I have recently noticed when slowing down to stop at junctions or roundabouts etc. just before stopping if I put the clutch down and change to 1st, and just let the car coast (with the clutch pedal down), there is a loud whirring from the gearbox. Since noticing this (after doing about 30k miles in the car)I messed about and it doesn\'t do the same in other gears. Everything else is bob-on and I have no trouble (as yet - touching big peice of wood!) with the gearbox. Any suggestions? - anything to worry about or am I getting stressed about nothing.

Seems to be a very common problem after about 60k.
It even warns as a thing to look for in the Parkers guide.
It doesn't seem to cause problems, just cosmetic noise.
You could try changing the fluid with a good GL5 75w80
