Hi, Can someone give me a quick refresher on replacing the ignition barrel on a Mk2 Golf? Do i have to drill a hole in the housing & then push a spring in? It's been a while & I can't quite remember!

Yes, you do. Haynes give a diagram and fairly accurate measurements as to where the hole needs drilling. If you have'nt got the manual, your local library may have a copy (or the nearest big library to you) you might be able to photocopy the relevant page.
At a push I could scan my copy...

thanks, i've got the manual. I got as far as taking off the steering wheel, stalks, etc. Problem arose when i tried to get the "lock washer" off! I think this is the outer collar that is splined on the inner steering shaft. Tried getting it off, without any joy. Anyone know how to do this?
