VW Tiguan Escape - Loss of 4WD - MBCB

My 60 reg, 47K Tiguan Escape, despite permanent 4WD is only operating in 2WD(front wheels only). Had 1x rear spring replaced at 35 month point under warranty.Car now 5 months out of warranty. Fault has been confirmed on a rolling road. Is this a known fault? What is the cause? Had to have 1x new rear spring

Most soft-roaders are smart/intelligent, part-time 4wd, not permanent 4x4 - generally, they are FWD most of the time, only transferring torque to the rear when front slip is detected (by the ABS sensors).

It may well be that no fault exists - more detail on the test process is needed.

I believe its 90/10 normally, unless slipage is detected, but 50/50 starting off anyway.

Vag use different systems for different years and models.

VW's use a Haldex clutch on the rear diff that only transfers extra power to the rear when slippage is sensed from the front.

It's all explained here :

Basically it's a 90/10 split under normal driving conditions as has been mentioned above and the system is electronically monitored so if there was a failiure you'd know about it by way of a fault message on the dash.

Just make sure you have had the Haldex oil changed at the recommended 40k interval and you shouldn't have a problem.
