Honda Accord - Remote Access very weak - Pattyxclent

Hi, We bought a used 1995 Honda Accord for 500 quid and it only had 58,000miles on it. We're very happy with it. It has a remote access device in the car and, like new cars, you just press a button on your key fob to open and lock the doors. However, the signal is so poor you have to put the key fob to the window to lock or unlock the doors. Is it fixable and would it be worth it? Thanks!

I think this car may have the old fashioned infra red type remote locking system ,which means the key fob has to be in line of sight to the receiver in the front roof panel,by interior light. This is why it only operates when close to the window.hth

Have you tried a new battery in the key fob ? A weak battery will give you this problem and it's pretty easy and cheap to try first.

That is correct, used to have them as hire cars back in the early to mid 90's. A real pain in car parks if you approached the rear of the car with arms full of files etc, you had to walk to the front to unlock it.

IIRC pick up on back of rear view mirror-you have to be in sight of it and close.Totally different to modern radio systems.
