Mercedes - Horn as Alarm Chirp? - mickyh7

Hi, when I lock my car, instead of an independent alarm Chirp, the horn peeps very briefly.

Is this legal in the UK at night time?

I'm sure the Highway code says not.

Well it's illegal to use your horn at certain times of the night.

So what makes you say it's OK on an alarm system?

I'm guessing you are a lawyer, or maybe a Mercedes-Benz designer?

Can’t think of any Mercedes model since year 2000 that sounds the horn for alarm . Is this a UK spec car ?

Yes, and on the M/B forums, the folk in the know, tell me that quite a few different models use this system.

I only enquired there, because I felt it sounded a bit cheap! And I'm guessing it is a cost saving on build.

I've turned it off now.

Mine is not new, but 2019.

It was on the M/B forum, where somebody mentioned the legality of using a horn at night!

So hence the question.

Neither of those two options - just following the train of though Mercedes-Benz is unlikely to sell an illegal car in the UK.

My thoughts as well but......

It uses a Horn.

It's illegal to sound a Horn between certain hours?

Both facts can't exist together, legally?

I’ve not seen a 2019 Mercedes sound the horn on locking . Is it a selectable option on the car features menu ?
