I attach a response from Eric Pickles MP regarding the Protection of Freedoms bill.

I signed the petition against Clause 56 of the Protection of Freedoms Bill and wrote to my MP, and I attach his response. Please note that there are not many signatures on the petition. Eric Pickles' response is a panacea to everyone and everything will be alright when it happens. The reality of course is there is no actual answer to someone being strong-armed into making payments, because none of the safeguards are statutory but based on codes of practice which have been shown to be useless in other circumstances. It will take the Daily Telegraph's very best newspaper campaign to get the mindset of the politicians shifted in this regard.

Many thanks. It’s a standard pro forma reply penned by the DfT and mentions “safeguards” but these will be legislated as part of the Act. Instead, the British Parking Association is setting up an independent appeals scheme to be in place by October 2012 when the Act becomes Law. You can find the BPA Code of Practice at: www.britishparking.co.uk/Approved-Operator-Scheme-...e . Meanwhile, please address any complaints to www.britishparking.co.uk/AOS-Enquiries
