Can a car dealer sell a car as 'sold as seen'?

I am considering buying a used car from an online car dealership. However, upon asking about the warranty, I was told the cars are sold as seen. Do they not have to be responsible for a period of time after the sale at least? Or as they sell 'sold as seen' do they evade any liability?

You may not be offered a warranty, but "sold as seen" has no basis in law and you have statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and, if you're buying on finance, Section 75 of The Financial Services Act. You can find details of both here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights
