Which 4x4 is suitable for low annual mileage?

Which petrol / diesel 4x4 for low annual mileage?
My future requirement is for a mid sized SUV with 4X4 capabilities (possibly 2 wheel if it has known bad weather capabilities, traction control etc) immediate rural location requires a 4X4 to cope with narrow lanes, muddy verges, getting out of the way of other vehicles and winter conditions. However my annual mileage is very low at under 7000 miles and with little main road or long distance driving
I would prefer a diesel for economy torque and mpg. There doesn't seem to be a 4X4 which is free from DPF, flywheel problems etc if subjected to low mileage. Can you recommend a diesel or petrol SUV for these conditions? . Thank you

The smallest, cheapest and most capable in bad conditions is the Suzuki Jimny that remains in production until 2016. Not diesel (in the UK), though. But for a bit more comfort, I recommend the FIAT Panda Cross, preferably the TwinAir, though there is a diesel version too: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/fiat/fiat-panda-cr.../
