What are my consumer rights against a car trader?

Two weeks ago I bought a 2008 Mazda 6 with cash from a trader. The car is a 2.2 diesel estate with 68,000 miles on the clock. The problems started when the engine oil light flicked on. The engine then stopped and the car will no longer start. My local mechanic had a look and thinks its possibly timing chain related and towed it back to mine. What rights do I have as the car was fine until today?

Full consumer rights against the trader who sold you the car. You'll see the problem in the Mazda 6 entry in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ But basically the trader has to fix it or give you your money back, or you can sue him for it: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
