What small replacement for an old Nissan?

I have driven Nissans for 30 years with few problems, currently a 1.8 Primera auto 54 reg. Want to change to a smaller but well powered 4dr auto saloon/hatch and comfortable for touring as well as day to day.

I'm considering a Golf/Mazda 5/Juke but totally confused by new jargon and reading the "bad" reports re faults. I'd usually buy a one-year-old car and can spend
around £15,000. What would you recommend please?
