Replacing a used Mondeo

My 2005 Mondeo diesel is being passed to my son very soon. I was going to replace it with another year old car but my mileage has reduced. I was about to buy a 12 mth old petrol such as Focus, Octavia or even Superb 1.4T. I have now decided to spend much less and go diesel again but minus DPF.

This puts me in 205 - 2007 territory £3000 - £4000. Mondeo, Vectra, Signum or Citroen C5. My Mondeo has been perfect for ride quality, reliablity, seat and pedal position. The only reason I would look at something else would be for a change. I was going to downsize but my wife has very bad rheumatoid and small car will never ride like a bigger one. Can you see any pitfalls in my plan?

All C5 diesels have DPFs, right from the start. No Mondeo III does. Best avoid the GM cars with the 1.9 diesel engine. More in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
