Horsa for Corsa

My daughter owns a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa which has done sterling service on her horrendous commute to work for the last few years. Only 18 miles round trip (Sydenham to Battersea), but it involves all of the worst that London has to offer - numerous humps, potholes, the stop start crawl (mainly stop) of the Camberwell New Road, etc.

She has now grown tired of the numerous gear changes this involves and would like to get an automatic car, but I find it impossible to advise her. She would like a car of similar size to the Corsa with 5 doors, that must be able to cope with heavy London traffic/roads and be as economical as possible.
