Why has this dealer put the price up of a Ford Galaxy by £2,700 after we agreed the deal?

Can the garage put the price of a car I ordered in January 2011 up by £2,700? I have rung them a number of times and I was assured this would not happen. But the car arrived a week ago and I was informed that the new car price had gone up and my trade-in had gone down. The car I am buying is a Ford Galaxy Titanium X 163 and I'm trading in a 56-plate Galaxy Ghia. Can you help me, as now they are saying Ford will not ok the deal but they still want my business. I cannot afford this and I cannot walk away as I would have, had I known sooner and got more for my trade-in. I now feel I have been told a pack of lies so as to keep me on the hook to rip me of for more money?

Well obviously the value of your Galaxy has dropped between January and June. It's six months older. That isn't a problem because your new vehicle is newer by the same number of months. But the price rise of the new vehicle is an issue you can take up and haggle over. You agreed a price and if they cannot meet that price then they must give you your deposit back because it is they who are in breach of contract, not you.

I can give you some figures. In January, a 47,000 mile 2006/56 Galaxy 2.0TDCI Ghia trade booked at £10,775. In June, a 50,000 mile 2006/56 Galaxy 2.0TDCI Ghia trade booked at £9,350.
