Square route

I am being pressured into buying a satnav but I can't find out whether any will let you determine your own route - I usually plan my routes using Goggle maps where you can 'drag' the route they suggest to get the route you want. Some satnav bumf has references to 'waypoints' but doesn't explain what this means, nor do people in stores know whether any satnav has the facility I want - do you??

Satnavs will only give you a choice of route between two points that they are programmed to give. That can be 'fastest', 'shortest', 'avoiding motorways', etc, and for truck drivers and caravanners, 'avoiding narrow lanes, pinch points and low bridges'. But if you want to take an indirect route or visit places between A and Z you can programme the route using 'waypoints'. So you would go, for example, from A to F, then from F to M, then from M to T, then from T to W, then from W to Z. TomTom, Garmin, etc all allow you to do this.
