No question, your weekly feature in the Telegraphic Motoring section of that newspaper is always a good read regardless of what make of vehicle you drive. However, as a completely satisfied owner of a Toyota Auris 1.6 T-Spirit 5 door hatchback, petrol, I ask why is it that you never feature that motorcar in "Choose a Car"? I have found in use that the car has many sensible safety and operational features. thoughtfully and carefully selected. They are clearly displayed in the dashboard, and with the use of the Optitron dials, present a neat cluster - clearly visible. For myself, a major attraction for the driver was the splendid ergonomic console. It gives grace and style. I am your average motorist, I am not a brochure writer for Toyota. What I simply ask is, that you give thought to recommending this good family car that is safe to drive and quite economical to run. Thank you

The Auris has been mentioned a number of times, but does not always escape the cutting room floor. It is tested at launch (along with 380 others) at www.honestjohn.co.uk . I found the gearing a bit low, as it was on the Corolla, making the car noisy on the motorway. The new model Toyota Avensis 1.8 is vastly better, with longer gearing and a much smoother, more economical ‘Valvematic’ engine.
