DPFs: What are they and why do they go wrong? (FAQs)
If complete regeneration is not possible within this period, the regeneration will be interrupted. Question: How does regeneration affect the oil life? Answer: On each regeneration or attempted regeneration, a certain diesel fuel amount is injected into the engine oil which reduces the oil life. If the "INSP" light in the instrument cluster comes on, the engine oil is exhausted and must be changed. -

This will be because of worn piston rings or cylinder bores – or both. The only solution is a complete rebuild. Next check the underside of the oil filler cap, for signs of a white emulsion. -

Used Van Buying Guide: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2006-2013 25 Nov 2019 (News)
What to watch The oil filter within the engine of 2007 Sprinters can become blocked and this causes the engine oil to be expelled through the dipstick hole (even though the dipstick is in place) leaving the engine to seize. Sprinters have a bit of a reputation for rust, though it’s unfair and largely down to abuse from owners - and unlined load spaces. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 4 Apr 2015 (News)
Black death? I have decided to stick with diesels. My current diesel is a 2011 VW 2.0TDI, which I assume is EU5. I choose diesel for the good fuel economy (up to an indicated 70mpg), the mega high gearing, and the mid-range torque. -

I have just had me Audi A4 2.0 diesel in for its first long life service at 18000 and when I checked the oil the next day it was black. I rang the dealership and they said it was normal and it was the carbon deposits. Surely these would have been removed when the old oil was changed. -

TDCi oil black immediately after garage 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I have to get my 03 Mondeo TDCi (31000 miles) garage-serviced for a insurance-type warranty. When I got the car home (4 miles) the oil was already black! I've heard this happens quickly with diesels, but that quickly??? I have had little previous experience with diesels. Could someone with greater knowledge help me to guess whether this is normal or should I do it again myself to be certain please? -
Peugeot 207 sport diesel 2008 - oil change 11 Aug 2010 (Forum)
i had my car serviced 5 days ago and as part of that service the oil and filter was changed. After 2 days i checked my oil level and found the oil to be black this made me think that the oil had not been changed.I took the car back to the garage and asked them if this was normal they said it was normal as when the oil is drained not all of the old oil drains out of the engine so when the new oil is added it mixes with the old old that was left in the engine thus causing the oil to look black they said this happens with diesel engines is what they told me correct or not.
