Vauxhall Astra SRi - Brake pedal going stiff whilst in reverse - Aisha

I have Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.4 and have been having problems with the brakes whilst reversing. As soon as the car is put in reverse and I push down on the brake pedal, it goes stiff and I am not able to stop the car because of this. It is an intermitted problem and so is not always there. The car has been in and out of the garage and they have changed the brake pads and also bled the brakes. this has not resolved the issue. Anyone else had such a problem?

Sounds like a Servo issue. It's possibly a crimped/leaking seam or pipe or vacuum hose leading to/from the brake servo, they need to check all the pipework throughout the braking system.

Also have them check the brake calipers for wear.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH THIS TYPE OF ISSUE - the same issue may occur when the car is moving forwards and you would have little or no braking.
