MINI Cooper D - knocking engine - mike e30

2007 mini cooper d, oil pressur light on, runs ok when cold no light on, heats up and of course light on and starts knocking, no oil getting to the top?? is it worth putting a new oil pump in and seeing if it will sort it long enough to sell?? or is it shagged??

If you run a car with low oil level and never check it what do expect .

the oil level is regulary checked and is always to its maxium mark!! no more no less!! its the oil pressure light thats on not the oil level!! and is always serviced on time and just serviced 2 months ago,.sorry i didnt give the the full 5 year history! THANKS for all the help in all the replies, yer knowledge on low oil problems is fascinating,..great forum!!! AND yes if i went to the trouble of putting a oil pump,chain and tensioner into it i would flog it!!!

What planet are these people on. I can only guess that the car has had no maintenance carried out and had never had any checks carried out either.

Sorry but its self inflicted. Spend some money and get it sorted properly.

Would you want some muppet selling you a car they had bodged to simply pass the problem to a different owner.
