2001 Saab 9-3 Turbo SE - clutch not disengaging properly - davyj

Hi,

I have a Saab 9-3 2.0 turbo and have a fault which has just started.

the gearboxhas developed a whine while driving that disappears when the clutch is engaged but when the clutch pedal is right down on the floor you can feel the clutch spinning through your foot.

I have asked a few garages and they say that the clutch plate is needing renewed but it is not slipping and i am still getting all the power out of the engine.

the car is only used occasionally

Any suggestions???

It sounds as though the clutch thrust bearing is worn/faulty, as the gearbox needs to be removed for that fitting a new clutch as well would be sensible. You can go on using the car but if the thrust bearing fails completely you will not be able to disengage the clutch which makes it difficult to drive.

best to change the slave cylinder and clutch hose at the same time. When you fit a clutch to these the hydraulics normally fail within weeks due to the original hose delaminating internally and causing contamination to the hydraulics.

does the gearbox have to cone out the car to replace the clutch thrust bearing or can it be done in situ ??

Gearbox out job I'm afraid.
