ford mondeo tdci - fuel saver - smed706

hi to all

i have recently purchased an 05 plate damaged repairable ford mondeo tdci it has light front end damage and fitted to the front of the car are 2 white plastic canisters with a rubber tube that comes from both canisters and is linked into the air pipe between the air filter box and turbo and there is also a positve and negitive feed from each canister which is linked direct to the battery does any1 have any idea what this is ???

i have been told it is a fuel saving device if this is true how does it work
