passat estate 2L tdi DSG highline Dec.09 - Burning smell - jimmyriddle

Hi John

Since new I have noticed a burning rubber smell from the rear off side wheel arch. When it first happened I thought it was a stuck brake. but as it only happens now and again I forgot about it.

This has occurred around 6 times and is always on a 20min+ journey. I dont think it always happens.

Have you any idea what is causing it?? I took it to my dealer today and they said the fault didnt occur during a test drive. They didnt take the wheel off. But suggested we book it in for further tests.

Thanks for your help.

Michael

Its not the particulate filter doing a regen is it?
That would cause a burning smell.

Do you have an Auxiliary heater fitted. Check in your option codes on the ID label either in the service book or the one in the Spare Wheel bay or ask your dealer. Regards Peter
