Ford Focus 1.6 (2002) - 8 Year Service - ripjean

Hi All,

Most independant garages will change the oil, spark plugs, air filter every year during the service and will charge around £130 (which is still pretty good value).

However some garages offer the oil change and the checks (interim service) for £65. On a car this age would it be worth having the oil change and checks only or is it better to have the full service (with all the filters changed)?

I only so about 6,500 miles a year.

Thanks for any advice

Ford recommend a major service every 3 years or 37.5k miles and this includes the spark plugs and pollen filter, which aren't changed on the interim services.

So - if you've been sticking to the Ford schedule, then you should be OK with an interim service this time and you'll be due a major service next year.

If you've deviated from this however, then check to see when the plugs/pollen filter were last done. I would have thought the air filter needs doing every year, along with the oil.

Make sure you keep track of when your brake and coolant fluids have been done too. The fuel filter and cam belt might also be on the cards for you in the near future, depending on your total mileage.

Thanks for the reply Mike.

The fuel filter was done 2 years ago so may leave that one more year. I have booked it into a place called Pumabuild in Birmingham who are independant specialists and they offer the £65 interim service. The cars total mileage is 53,000

I want to wait to see how they are (never used them before) - they quote £180 for cambelt change which is a lot less then the £340 Ford quoted!

Has anyone heard of Pumabuild?
