I'm thinking about buying one of these, anyone got a really high mileage one?
It's already got 125,000 on the clock There is some history with it and I will most likely add 20,000 a year on. Are these v6 engine ok for it?
Its a 94 model by the way.

Don't know about the mileage question on this specific Toyota, but my father's experience with a Toyota Corolla suggests that a couple of million miles might be a reasonable target. J reg, *nothing* has ever gone wrong.
Pricingwise, a 2.2I manual 99V with 78K miles on it (probably straight from a fleet) is up at BCA Newport late this month and should cost around £3,200 - £3,500. Dunno what you're being asked for, but this could guide you a little. Problem is, Newport is a long way from everywhere but Newport. And it's in W***s.

Check the archives, as I recall that I asked the same question some months ago.
It brought up nothing negative, so I remember. Lots of praise, particularly on reliability. I guess that the usual high-mileage cautions apply.
Low mpg put me off. I now have a Citroen XM diesel, so I am probably a bit barmy anyway, so don't trust me.

Generally thought to be very reliable if a little bland. The V6 is much better than the 4 cylinder 2.2l which is very underpowered for a car of this size. Unless you happen across a high spec Vienta model the interior trim is rather plasticy
and might get rather scruffy.
(a very common car in Oz after the Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons)

A friend of mine has had a few of these, and drives a lot of miles. He has nothing but good things to say, except for the cost of things like spark plugs and cambelt changes. The V6 is very expensive for basic maintenance, apparently, so check that the servicing has been done properly, and that no major maintenance work is due in the near future. My friend tends to ditch his when the second cambelt change is due. On the other hand, this could be a bargaining point...

Bit late in the day...yes these cars wear the mileage well. Find one with a proper service history, do the oil changes and cambelt changes as prescribed, and it will probably run forever. It is thirsty in town but the quality of the engine and gearbox is sensational.
Most owners look after these cars and even at ten years most are pretty tidy. But OE parts that wear out are expensive, or extremely expensive. A new auto electric aerial cost me the best part of £300 fitted. And this week I was quoted £1416.26 for a replacement radio-cassette. Plus fitting. Plus VAT. If I were lucky this is about what the car itself would fetch. So if anything like that is busted, decide to live with it or walk on by!

Hmm, or you could get a non OE one for about £100.
What is non OE/scrapyard availability like? Essential at this age I'd have thought.

Loads of Toyota parts are interchangeable between models,i can always source parts cheaply thru 'Findapart'.

Can you tell me more about Findapart please? It would obviously be helpful (even tho the busted r/c unit is covered by the insurance).
The r/c is designed to match the other dash controls for a/c etc and has the same look-and-feel, so any third party unit will look wrong. (Even the Nakamichi CD/radio the insurer has agreed).

No, the insurer hadn't agreed the Nakamichi! The small print says a max of £500 or 10% of the car's value (whichever is the less) for theft or destruction of audio equipment. So it is a very good job that I did find Findapart on the web.
I was able to put out a request for the replacement OE part and blow me if Prodrive, the Bristol-based Japanese rally car specialist, didn't come through with exactly the right thing within a couple of days. And within budget. So that is what they call a right result.
