Peugeot 205 diesel 1995 - stalls after starting - pattester

The car starts ok but then stalls. If I keep my foot on the gas it will idle and once warm its ok it will idle ok and it remains fine all day unless I leave five or six hours

any Ideas?

Have you changed the fuel filter lately?

The fuel return pipes tend to develop air leaks - bubbles form... Hence the 5 hour issue...

Fuel leak off pipes are quick and easy to change, so that would be a good place to start. could also be the 'waxstat' cold start idle speed increase device. When the engine is cold and the wax is solid, the idle speed is increased slightly. When the wax starts to melt, it allows the idle speed to drop back to normal.

Does it make any difference whether you depress the throttle a bit whilst you try to start it and imemdiately after the engine fires?

its the diesel pump. same happened to mine

Try pumping the primer until hard before starting, if it then starts OK you have an air leak.
