Peugeot 406 HDI - warning light

Peugeot 406 HDI - warning light - JustMike

Hi fellow spanner men,

I have been offered a 406 hdi which has had a slight front end shunt. I am happy to fix the bumper etc but it has STOP in big letters on the dash display. I am told this could be because its low on brake fluid but my instinct tells me its more to do with the accident. Can somebody tell me what triggers this STOP message please ? (And hopefully how to cure it.) The airbags are intact.

Sadly it can mean almost anything - air bags, brake fluid as you suggest, or engine temp, oil pressure or ABS for example.

Possibly the temp sensor or wiring or fan was damaged in the shunt.

A visit to a PSA dealer with the appropriate diagnostic software would be a good place to start.

Thanks Big John - I like a challenge but I think I will give it a miss - the 406 can present enough problems without buying one which already has them. Cheers. Mike
