my alarm has started to go off randomley for no apparent reason

The car's canbus network system should log what's triggered the alarm. A trip to the dealers is required to have the fault codes read out, unless you can spot anything obvious beforehand - eg, bonnet pin switch out of alignment, door/boot not closing properly (the light on the dash will remain on if so). Also try disabling the ultrasonic movement detectors to see if the fault still occurs with them switched off.
