NEW CAR bargain of the century? - Hector Brocklebank
My nomination - the Skoda Octavia. Available with the 1.4 TSi engine for the price of a specced-up supermini (11-12k), this must be the best value car out there when one considers the price of the equivalent - albiet less spacious - Golf.

but isn't that as rare as hens' teeth...the 1.4TSi on is on a 6-8 month wait is it not?

That's why they're so much in demand. There should be bigger discounts available on Octavias with engines that are less in demand.

I agree with Hector's general point. My Octavia vRS was £6,000 less (comparing list prices) than an Audi A4 with the same engine (2.0 TDI CR 170). I like Audis but couldn't justify having an A4 when the Octavia's build quality is almost as good and its luggage space considerably greater.
