96 1.8 Can a leaking diesel pump be fixed? - rat bike fan
Hi The diesel pump on my Mk1 mondeo and is losing alot of diesel while the engine is running. I thought initially the patch my car was leaving on the ground was power steering fluid, but I've been told by National garage staff that it's the diesel pump that is leaking.
The leak has now become much worse and leaves a constant trail wherever I go. Can this be fixed or does the whole pump have to be replaced? Does anyone have any idea how difficult this replacement/repair is likely to be or costs etc.
Any help would be great, cheers.

We would have to see it to know why not get some quotos from a diesel specialist or get another pump?

This could be just a seal/gasket where is it leaking?

I would agree, take it to a specialist and get a quote. A friend of mine got her leaking BMW pump done for £80.00 while she went shopping!

These pumps leak around the sprocket shaft, you can get a seal to repair but it's a pump off job, and there's lot's little bits and pieces that fly out at you when you take it apart. It may be easier to get a second hand pump and put that on? Good used units can be obtained for little money from breakers or Ebay e.t.c.

Thanks. I'll try and get a diesel garage to take a look at it so I know exactly where it's leaking. The guys at National didn't seem to have a clue. It took two visits before they could even work out that it was the diesel pump that was leaking in the first place!!!
Cheers.
