The gearbox revs up between 2nd and 3rd then slams into gear. Does anybody know what the problem is or is anybody experiencing anything similar ?.

Only thing you can do is check the ATF, it's probably dirty. It's also probably too late to help but try changing the ATF; a full flush (including torque convertor) not just a sump change. That's the only reasonable thing you can do without removal and dissassembly.

Depending on mileage (< 60,000 miles) and if still under 3 yrs old, let the warranty take care of it.
As for fluid change, I believe for these auto boxes the fluid has to be drained and filled by some electronic gismo, rather than just draining and refilling with oil and a funnel.
