My wipers have stopped working. I took it to the Peugeot garage today expecting to be told I need a new motor or something trivial, but got told it's the Com 2000 which needs replacing. Apparently this is the thing which works everything the stalks touch, but it's only my front wipers that don't work. Lights, indicators, back window etc. are all fine. Do I need a new Com 2000 or is there a quick and cheaper fix?

If they tested it properly [If...?] then the "switch on the wipers" network signal from the Comms to the BSi could have been found to be missing.

That would be a pretty good indication that the problem lies in the Comms; it's the steering-column ECU that transmits all the stalk functions, radio functions, airbag and immobilizer - they fail in droves.

Unless you have ESP, they're plug-and-play [you just keep fitting them until you find one that works...] so not too bad to replace. [Once you've got the airbag off...]

Thanks mate. I've got ESP but to be honest I always turn it off as soon as I start the engine...Are these comms things fixable or do I need a brand new one?

Not sure about a brand-new one... My record is fitting seven before I got one that worked. Comms for ESP cars contain a steering angle sensor and have to be calibrated after installation.

I'd feel a lot happier if I could be sure that the problem had been expertly diagnosed - the wiper motors do fail rather a lot on these....
