Rubber grease - wemyss
Tomorrow I have to replace two large rubber suspension bushes.
The Haynes manual specifies to pack them in rubber grease.
Is this a product obtainable easily from motor accessory shops.
If not would vaseline or similar do the job.

I think Haynes must be referring to white brake grease. Halfords etc sell this. As an alternative, and, to assist assembly, you could try silicone grease as used by plumbers to assemble plastic pipe fittings which have rubber (neoprene)'O' rings.
I wouldn't use Vaseline; I think it is solvent based and may soften rubber over time - just like a baby's bum !

Thanks Richard, good thinking....
I've just been out and bought some of the silicone grease as used by plumbers.
Should have thought of that myself having once been one..

I thought rubber grease was the red stuff that you pack under the dust seals of wheel cylinders; never mind, guess jobs done now!
