05 1.6 HDi missfire - nmidd
Hi guys, I've got a 407 SW 1.6 110 HDi ad it's got what I can best descibe as a missfire.
It idles ok but when you blip the throttle it misses a bit and it seems to be a little rough and missing a bit when you accelerate from rest. The worst though is when you accelerate in either 4th or 5th, then the missing seems to vibrate through the whole car.
Any one got any ideas what this could be? Ta, nmidd.

Has the MIL light ever come on - or a warning message? What fuel has it run on?

No lights or messages have ever come on and it's run on regular fuel

As the engine management is very sensitive to misfires and would flag a code; I'm beginning to wonder if this could be a DMF breaking up?

OK, what's a DMF?

Dual-mass flywheel.

Two rotating steel components stuck together with Blu-tack - most have them.

Have now had diagnosed by dealer as faulty injector. Prob is they're 280 quid each + vat + lab, that's 500 quid to change 1 and 1500 for all 4. OUCH!!!

If you can do without the car for 3 or 4 days it is possible to a refurb (with warranty) done on the injectors. If your dealer thinks it is 'A' faulty injector why is there talk about changing all 4? If it is an 05 isn't it under warranty? Perhaps just out?

Yes I'm happy to do without car, do you know who can do refurb? They say, predictably, that at that mileage it would be better to change all 4, they would say that though wouldn't they?? It's under 3 yrs, 1/9/05, but done 80k so out of warranty.

"A" faulty injector? But they're so sure, that they're changing all four? Hmmmm....

What were the comparative leak-off figures?
05 1.6 HDi Missfire - nmidd
Pardon my ignorance Screwloose, but what are comparative leak off figures??

One of the best tests for a common-rail injector is to attach measuring bottles to each injector and then carry out a leak-off test.

Comparing the amounts that each injector is returning to the tank will often identify a faulty injector as it will be spilling ten times more than each of the others.

Before condeming an injector; your garage will have done this test - the results would be interesting.

Hi, what did they find with your car in the end???

I have the same issue at the moment and I'm struggling to find it. No faults codes, all injectors check out fine at a diesel specialist and I'm actually an ex technician, so I know whats what. It seems something really silly. I'm swing towards the turbo, but would be really interested to hear what fixed your car finally.

Many thanks Phil.

Have you checked the EGR valve, may be stuck open with all the crud that passes through it.
