95 1.6 16v ECOTEC _ high revs - lk1
Hi Iv have just fitted a new head gasket to my M reg astra 1.6 16v ecotech petrol engine. It is now revving high on tick over. It starts at about 1 1/2 rpm and rises upto 2 1/2 or 3rpm on tick over. Also orange engine warning light now comes on. Changed the idle on it but still have the problem. Anyone out there who can please

high revs on these at tickover ussually mean its sucking air somewhere check vac pipes fitted correctly is there enough slack on the throttle cable or has some debris got lodged in the throttle body, the only other thing is to let the idle air valve re-learn its basic position, disconnect battery leave for ten mins reconect turn ign on (without touching throttle) turn of, then start vehicle using no throttle

Cheers for the note on the vac pipes there was a small crack in one replaced it runs fine now cheers mate
