Good point Tron. Interesting that Brustrom's cameras caught over 100 of his own officers and his daughter speeding over the years.

Interestingly, on Radio Five Live this morning, with Victoria Darbyshire, there was a discussion about policing. During the short time I had the radio on, there were two listeners from North Wales complaining about the poor quality of policing in their area. One was from Mold.

Many Gwynedd council tax payers wish that the Mad Mullah's clear up rate on drug dealing, burglary, street crime and graffiti was as good as his rate on speeders.

I've told my wife that we will not be going on holiday to Wales. It's difficult enough to concentrate on all the various road signs and restrictions in an unfamiliar area, without having to worry constantly that I'll have a present or two from the police waiting for me when I get home.

I'm not a speeder, but some limits are not well signed, or can be confusing, so it's easy to make an honest mistake, even if you're not intending to break the limit.

As Paul Smith (RIP) once said, the speeding laws are just about the only ones where you have to conciously and constantly avoid breaking them.

Here in Germany, the speed cameras are normally hidden. There used to be an online gallery of the more hilarious hiding places, but I can't find it now. It included wheelie bins and fake trees.

There is also this. The camera is the grey and black stripey post:

And this, the "Traffi Tower":

Video of the offending horse-box. I'd really like to see their Health and Safety Risk Assessment for that activity.

And would it need a RIPA authority I wonder.

Going to Llanidloes in the AM from Cheshire. Normally quite a tedious drive but will now while away the time inspecting all forms of parked animal transport. Question for any farmers in the forum tonight, what exactly do you call a trailer for pigs ? ;-)

A very good point pu. I don't think id like to spend any time in a"Used" Horsebox

That head-height grey and stripey post wouldn't last 2 minutes in the UK it would need it's own CCTV to protect it!

I suppose that if they used a sheep trailer they would have to find some very short policemen.

They're all at it:

"A new set of 16 radar speed traps came into operation at midnight last night on the M30, Madrid ring road. The speed limit on the road has been set to 70 km/hour, with the new radars located strategically round the city...11 in the new tunnels on the road and five more will be placed elsewhere."

At least the EU taxpayers are still funding the building of new roads here.

Observation - The horsebox appears to be parked very close to the edge of the road which is painted with a solid white edge line. It seems to be parked in an unofficial lay-by. I could well be wrong here but I always thought that you shouldn't park so close to a solid white edge line??

Just been thinking about this - I've worked closely alongside Police Officers for the last thirty years, and have respected their professionalism in usually very difficult circumstances that we the public place upon them. I have had several close friends in the Force over the years - However this seems to me the most badly thought out and risky undertaking I have seen in all those years. I would like to think that this is a maverick Officer's idea and shudder to think that this may be a sanctioned Force policy - shockingly amateurish behaviour.

Whenever I have doubts as to whether I made the right decision to leave the UK, I read things like this and other daily examples of how bitter, petty, nasty and small-minded things have become back home and I actually start to dread my visits there. Enjoy.

Reality Check time - anyone would think from reading this thread that every road bigger than a farm track was festooned disguised speed cameras. The reality couldn't be more different - speed cameras (mobile, disguised or otherwise) are so rare up here, they're almost collectors' items. Sure, there alots of speed camera signs , but these are very rarely backed-up by the hardware. North Wales, is (if you're of that disposition) a speeder's paradise.

Ooops, that black car just copped {sic} it! Wonder if the marked car that drives though was caught too?
