I would like to give the car an oil and filter change.

Bought all the necassary parts and thought it would be a doddle.

Also bear in mind the last time i decided to do a service on a car it was fourteen years ago on a 1986 Fiesta.

The oil filter is easily accessable at the front of the engine.

I can guess where the sump is, but it is covered in a large plastic cover underneath the car. There are two pairs of bolts underneath the front bumper on the left and right side.

My question is: how can i get this cover off?

I'm hoping someone has done a service on this make of car and can help me or i'll have to throw in the towel and take it to the garage.

I suppose i could always burn it! No car=no problem :)

I used a flat screwdriver and a pair of long nosed pliers to get the plastic cover off on my car.

Use the screwdriver to gently get between the plastic cover and the sump itself and wedge it open slightly. Once wedged, get the long nosed pliers into the gap you've created and get a grip of the shaft of the plastic clip that holds the cover to the sump.

It should then be easy to gently prize the clip out without destroying it for eternity. Repeat for all the other clips, should be about 7 or 8 to get the panel to come away from the sump body.
