The headlights will not switch off when the stalk is rotated to the off position.
The backlights work with the switch which I guess rules out the switch.
In the fuse box there is a relay marked H/Lamp.
I have tried the horn relay in it's place but still the headlights stay on.
The owner reported a burning smell under the bonnet but I couldn't smell anything.
The main lights fuse has been removed to prevent the battery going flat overnight.
Apparantly its now working OK but there must be a fault somewhere.
I was wondering if it had a dim/dip unit. I had a problem with one on the Mrs Micra where one headlamp wouldn't come on.
On the Accent there is a box screwed to the N/S inner wing fairly close to the fuse box.
I'll check that out if the problem happens again.
Maybe a dry joint that has come to light with the cold weather today?
P reg 1.3 - Headlights won't switch off - spikeyhead {p}
Did the head lights go off when you removed the headlight relay?
if so and they went back on with another known good relay in there then its the control to the relay that's at fault. It's possible that the switch (stalk) has separate contacts for the front and rear lights.
You really need a wiring diagram to be sure what's happening.
