Its not a virus, Virus's do not stop windows starting, indeed they all need windows booted to survive and propogate.

You need to boot from the windows recovery console on a windows xp CD. set your bios to boot floppy/cd/hard drive in that order.

What floppy you using and what does it say when it failes to boot?

0x00000024 is usually an unrecoverable disk error. You need to be able to boot some NTFS repair tools or the windows XP CD recovery console to fix this otherwise I am afraid your data is toast.

First thing I would try is to bootup from another source such as the recovery CD (as suggested) or something like BartPE to see if the hard disk is accessible without problems. Also maybe run a scandisk.

If data is accessible but the disk is not bootable then move on and post for more help. All is not lost.
