Any idea why my sister's 2000 Ford Ka is very reluctant to change gear -particularly between 4th and 5th. It takes a mighty shove to make it change. Any ideas?

is the uj partially seized?
its under the car near the gearbox input shaft for the gears

Thanks -is this difficult/expensive to replace?

dab some paint on the uj and the bar that goes into the gearbox so that you know where to realign it to
undo the 13mm nut and bolt
pull back the uj to free it
see if its seized in any direction,
squirt wd or similar to unfree it
job should be done
im assuming the gears go alright so its not a dragging clutch by the way
