My 96 Mondy has a flashing airbag light and always has done since I got it.
I understand this means it is either faulty or has been deployed.
Is the fact that the light is flashing an MOT fail? The MOT isn't due til next May but if it needs sorting I'd like to know so I can start saving now!

The airbag system isn't part of the MOT. Fords airbag lights flash a fault-code - what is it.
If it's just on-off-on-off continuously; then that's a code 1, for the spiral cable behind the steering wheel.

What appears to be a very common fault is shown by 4 flashes a pause 4 flashes....
...just like my Mondeo did yesterday after the passenger seat was moved.
It is usually the connector under the seat that either needs a little waggle ( as mine did ) or the contacts cleaning.
IIRC if there is a fault light then the system will not function.

Thanks screwloose and Henry. I'll look at the light in more detail over the weekend and see the flash pattern and report back.
Cheers

Just to confirm it for you - the car will not fail because the airbag light is flashing. If it was the abs system warning light then that would cause a problem at the mot.
