Selling a car with 'history' : interesting read - Oilyman
Maybe already posted here - I couldn't find it - so here goes.

Well worth the time to read the first 5 or 6 pages.

Subject line tweaked to reflect discussion topic. Link made non-clickable in view of the type of language which might frighten the Vicar's wife and would be certainly be moderated away from this site, considering locking this thread in view of the racial and potentially defamatory content of some of the posts. - PU

The thread has caused vx220.org to crash about 5 times this week that I know of. Goes to show that a group of dedicated owners are capable of carrying out good detective work to protect their community. Seem like a top bunch to me.

Awesome,

You cannot leave it to just 5 or 6 pages you need to read it all. Haven't laughed that much in ages

If you read further (I gave up at 10 and skipped to the end) someone clearly knows the answer having done an (illegal?) check using police or DVLA records.....

Imran clearly doesn't know that when you are in a hole, you should stop digging.

Excellent! If only he'd said "yes it's had accident damage in the past but it's unrecorded and been professionally repaired", he could've sold it for a few grand less and not had the humiliation of all that evidence against him! (and just about every motoring forum on the net knowing about it!)

HJ, says that he's happy, the clckable link has been disabled usual disclaimer about the use of language, apparently the site has crashed again, there were 240 odd (not odd in that sense !) guests on the site when I read through earlier.

Anyway fill your boots It is an enjoyable read - honest !

I think the seller was a bit shocked when someone posted the pics of an accident damaged one almost the same as the one for sale.
I think i'd be to if i was to sell a car & it came up somewhere else as written off! :-(

Absolutely hilarious.

Have Google Geared it so I can read it again when I need a laugh.

Started following this yesterday and then again today. Wouldn't say hilarious but it sounds like someone caught out. If the accident damage picks are the same car (and there's only 65 of 'em in total, each with a plate) then he was foolish. Especially as they appear to have sourced parts from the vxr website and ebay for damage similar to the photos.

The site has since said all the nonesense should stop but they are standing by what they said - the body shop has been in touch which belongs to "Imran's brother" called Imran - the place where Imran uses a PC at 1am sometimes based on IP addresses used to post. And the admin guy offered a free professional check and no reply yet....

The bit I do find amusing, the seller also pictures an M3 which is for sale, and someone HPI'd it and it was Cat-D and not repaired by the insurer ;-) This guy could have said "accident damaged VXR turbo no. 16 for sale" has been professionally fixed and asking price is £x. Now he might not sell it or anything because people from all over the world and many forums now know about the cars!

Holes need to be stopped being dug when you're up to your neck :-)

Good amusing read! - However,it does just go to show how a discussion can deteriorate into the obsence. Shows the importance of strong Moderators, and actually says something of the site when even "the Moderators" have to post that they "give up"!!

Nethertheless, they do seem to "look-out" for each others interests, and in this case it paid off, - But.... Imran could so easily have been "innocent! ;-) !! and have had his reputation and his "brothers" ruined. Care must always prevail.

I have just spent 2 hours at 'work' ploughing thru the 44 page thread. The crunch for me was when someone posted a photo of a text message he had for an HPI check on the another car (BMW M3) which the guy had for sale and it was a class D write off which an insurance company had decided not to repair. Another poster put up a picture of the same car with a very non-BMW shut line on the driver's door ie gaping

And will be why there was a plate change on the VXR220 Turbo I think.

The sad thing for the car if fixed correctly someone would buy at the right price knowing what happened. But if this business is tarnished due to the original seller (who may be his own brother and the owner of a business anway!) then could be follow on.

The site seem to have info they are certain off and he did not back off. Now there is huge interest in this and the other cars also called into question.

Oh dear...

The cumulative thrust of the evidence shown so far would suggest a, fairly common, shyster that buys "unrecorded" write-offs from the dirty end of the trade and bodges them back together, with secondhand parts and a quick "blow-over," in his back street shed 'next the railway line at Three Bridges.

He's hoping that some goggle-eyed mug will buy the patter and the polish and not realize that they're buying from a "private trader" so they don't come back when they find out that it's bent as a banana and handles like a tea tray. Given his ludicrous mouthiness when he was rumbled, can you imagine the excuses he gives his punters when they try and claim compensation....

Only the complete toothlessness of Trading Standards allow blatant crooks like that to florish brazenly. They know that the chances of any action are tiny and the penalties will be less that the profit on one job.

Crime pays in this country and the criminals are arrogantly laughing all the way to the bank.

He may well have got away with it (and may do still) but advertising it (a VX220) on the VX220 forum was always going to be risky. Or perhaps these people think everybody is as thick as they are.

But anyone buying such a car would take advice so adverticing on such a forum a little shortsited - assuming he is not innocent.

Went to look at "only" a 306 on a 98 R plate with step-son today. Dealer price would be perhaps £1600 but they want £1100... suspicions for me:

- Air bag light flashes
- Front number plate cracked
- Driver side front wing displaced but no damaged itself
- Rest of bodywork very good
- Engine also seems to be leaking oil...

And it passed MOT yesterday but an indicator not working.... Think it's dodgey and what to do???? Another thread me thinks. It is a garage.

That's the problem with buying such a distinctive and rare car - he bought it to repair purely out of greed. If he'd bought a Ford Focus or Vauxhall Corsa with unrecorded damage, he could've made a tidy profit selling it on Autotrader, no questions asked. Having the audacity to buy a VX220, and then to sell it via a group of experts/anoraks was a huge error.
