Some of the people on there need to get a sense of perspective. Clearly a site like this has its uses, but there are degrees of misdemeanor; someone driving at 50mph past a school in the middle of the afternoon needs his nads extracting, but the person with a brake-light out is hardly Fred West is he?
|
Why do I get the sense that if this country had a better railway network, all these sad little people would be sat in stations all day writing down the numbers/names of all the trains. Am quite disappointed that I'm not on the website to be honest, I'll drive a bit more recklessly in future and see if I get my 15 minutes of fame, possibly even a red light! ;-)

This driver should learn the correct way to negotiate the roundabout when approaching it from Stoke using the outside lane.
I haven't looked at the site, but that's an interesting one! There's a roundabout outside Stoke where the A500 goes beneath the A34, and for some reason a very large proportion of people seem to think that they need to get into the left hand lane of the sliproad off the A500 in order to turn right onto the A34.
It's truly bizarre. I could understand it if people were doing it to try to jump the usually larger queue in the right hand lane, but that isn't the case. These people truly believe that the left hand lane should be used to turn right.
It's intensely annoying (especially when they beep at you for using the correct lane!) but I don't think I'd ever bother 'reporting' it on a website.
Apart from just now, obviously.

i am going to get an account on there, and report me for bad driving

I had a quick look at the Better driving website and -- it's good !
Most of the reports are concerned with anti-social behaviour of a motoring kind - maybe not life threatening, but the sort of peurile stupidity we all encounter every day.
Interesting to note the interest amongst backroomers, and the desire to be included on the website stats. A sort of ASBO badge of honour, I wonder what that will lead to.
|
Maybe they could start awarding ASMO's!! (Anti-social Motoring Order). Actually they'll be noting down my suggestion in their notebooks, and before we know it Gordon will be announcing plans in parliament!! ;-)
|
If only the police gave sufficient resource to dealing with the highly visible, not to say bltantly obvious, issues picked up by the site in question! I suspect most of the offences, leaving aside the nitpicking, are committed by the usual charmers who clone, steal, embezzle etc.

Now *that* is a scary idea.

Now I know I may have disappointed Lud and some others with my sudden lapse into right-wing ranting on the text death thread.. : ) but I am pleased to report that on reading THIS thread I am overcome with a desire to lower my car, tint it's windows and fit a cherry-bomb exhaust. Who are these people?!! WHY? Why would you want to do this? If you have a legitimate complaint, then report it to the relevant authority... not that I always agree with the actions of these authorities but we can't be ruled and legislated by easy-iron trouser wearing busybody numpties who always look as if they're sucking a lemon. There's a couple of them live opposite my local pub. They are forever complaining about the "noise" (it's one of the few pubs in the area that NEVER has any trouble and is quieter than any other), and they were well in favour of the smoking ban (even though they never go to a pub, it just makes them feel superior) but now it's been implemented they don't like people smoking outside!!
I have pointed out to them that they knew there was a pub there when they moved in, and if they made an effort to be tolerant and get on with the eclectic crowd that goes there, they may get some sympathy. But, they live in Volvo-world. If you don't conform to their sad middle of the road views and outlook, then you are a "baddun". You can see their annoyance when someone who doesn't speak with a plum in their mouth has the audacity to pull up in a decent car. It's terrible this social equality thing.
My point is: this is the sort of sourfaced, bitter, unfulfilled individual that loves this kind of thing. They can play out their own frustrations against others. Give me 30 years I'll probably be like them... : )
|
I have just emailed the site to ask them to point out to their number plate-fixated members that the word pronounced 'font' and applied to typefaces is actually spelled 'fount'.
(Believe me, it is, and has been since the days of William Caxton).
We small-minded saddos must avoid elementary errors like this before people start poking fun at us...
|
As a pilot I obviously lived fairly near noisy military air bases and, now that I am retired, it happens that I still do. I am not one of them but the most persistent and vociferous complainers are actually retired RAF people! There is a huge fuss going on at the moment re night freight flights into and out of East Midlands. The largest number of complaints is coming from a man who used to be the Senior Air Traffic Controller there! 50% of all the complaints are coming from 5 people! By ear plugs or move away,it has been an airfield since before WW2. A sad marriage and too much spare time seems to be key to this lot, and perhaps a Volvo and crimplene trousers and a Teasmade.
|
Two things to worry about:
1. These people can vote - an explanation for some of the legislation we get!
2. They can serve on juries - someone help me if I ever transgress! blasphemy removed

Some people think this stuff doesn't matter, but there's a huge thread on Pistonheads.com at the moment about a guy who was reported by a member of the public for "Dangerous, or at least Careless, Driving".
He has no idea what he's supposed to have done and the Police say can't prosecute now (some time has elapsed) but they're going to put a warning on his car (presumably on the PNC) and any further reports and the car can be impounded and he?s have to pay recovery and storage fees etc. Seems there?s no appeal against this warning.

What happened to Innocent Until Proven Guilty?
That's the crux of the thread.

40 years ago and more the legendary Bill Boddy in Motor Sport was reporting magistrates' court cases where bemused drivers were being found guilty and fined heavily in careless or dangerous driving cases based on no more than the say-so of other drivers who had reported them to the police after being offended by some incident or other.
Nothing new here then...

If it's associated with the reg, then that's great news for anyone who subsequently buys the car

Why is everybody moaning about this specialist moaners site when most posts on this forum descend into some sort of moan about lousy drivers? Come off it - shouldn't we be pleased that a 'name and shame' facility is being offered at last? ;-)
|
the word pronounced 'font' and applied to typefaces is actually spelled 'fount'. (Believe me it is and has been since the days of William Caxton).
To be even more pedantic, I believe "fount" is the British English spelling, which has now fallen into disuse, in favour of the American "font". Personally I prefer "typeface". And non-standard number plate typefaces are just silly and annoying, and, it seems, a peculiarly British thing.

Oh dear......it's taken me 25 years to get rid of my rural accent (so my work colleagues don't rip the wotsit)...and now you tell me i've got to speak with a plum?

A donut and a plum Westpig?
That will be impressive ;-) Just don't do it while driving - StephenHarrison might see you.

The one that amazes me is the 2003 Merc S500 4MATIC at $37k. Full factory warranty but suspiciously cheap I think.
If I had to choose though it would be the XJR 100.

I picked one at random to compare:
www.texascarsdirect.com/PublicWeb/UI/WebForms2/Inv...1
Mine is a 2003. Ok, it's a 2.5 and had done 95K miles rather than 75K. However, this was a year ago, so a three year old car rather than 4 year old. Mine was just over £8K via Joe Dowd. Seek and ye shall find.

Hee hee... just neutrally is fine I think! What I meant is that my "friends" near the pub are a bit posh, or rather think they are... whereas there's a bit more of a Cheshire "caaaar paaark" contingent in the pub itself...
I can't talk (literally) my accent is a Wolverhampton/Stoke/Cheshire hybrid. Not exactly going to get me a job in the Diplomatic services...

As for crime...well, that's a rich vein of possibilities.
I'm open to suggestions really, the importnant thing is that you should be spotting me committing these misdemenours in rapid succession in barely possible locations - Leeds in the morning, Aberdeen late afternoon, that sort of thing.
My dad always said I should have a hobby......

Sorry, forgot - dark blue legacy estate.

Better to have you doing something barely possible, and that can't possibly have passed unnoticed, in a place where you have never been. You can't be too careful (but beware of wasting police time if you start a cloned-car hunt).
|
e.g.: 'Devilishly handsome, grinning fiendishly, rolled his car twice outside Bideford Market crushing 27 yearling ewes and sustaining virtually no body damage, drove on without even stopping...'
|

Just been randomly looking on there, and someone called Mamma b has posted a red light report for: "road rage induced swoop and squat on highway."
I've not heard of that manouvre before? ;o)
Search for licence plate 157-PBZ (Its in the US).
