Fiat Cinquecento - No coolant - Morpheus
Hi folks,

GF has a Fiat Cinquecento sporting and it always seemed to be requiring coolant topping up.

Today she phoned me to say that she smelled burning, pulled over and checked coolant and it was empty.

I am now wondering, is it likely to be a simple leak, or could it be something more serious?

Never noticed a leak, but with all the rain we've had, thats not surprising...

All advice welcome.

You need to find the cause of the leak pronto. Check all hose connections all hoses and radiator.

If it has run dry, then the cyclinder head gasket may have gone.. oil in water or water in oil or both.
have you added antifreeze on top ups? if not you may have serious internal engine corrosion or blocked radiator or both.
If you don't know what you are doing, garage job.

And if you don't do it asap, then bilss = £ a lot as she may have ruined the engine

If it smells hot then it has been quite hot, and most likely it will have blown the cylinder head gasket. You need to get it looked at properly to determine how much damage has been done. This is further complicated by the fact that it was losing coolant before, let alone after.

Don't drive the car. Have it looked at by someone with mechanical knowledge.

Sounds pretty bad. If you were in Italy though someone would fix it properly for 75 quid in a couple of hours provided there was no damage to major components. .

Failed head gasket very likely on this engine but water pump can also fail (though leakage is usually much slower).

radiators on these are vulnerable but its not a good idea to keep topping up any water system.
Suggest you get the system pressure tested pronto ,this will confirm /deny a leak or a head gasket or both
