Wife's birthday - quizman

It's my wife's birthday today, I have bought her a pair of Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades, from wiperblades.co.uk, for her Focus.

I have driven the car in the rain, when has it been dry recently, and they are very good. I can't understand why she is so cross with me!

I have got to get her a dock thing for her new ipod, whatever that is, she says.

That is the problem with wifes. The present Mrs P would be just the same.
She would not stop and think that I had carefully considered her safety whilst driving in the rain - and the fact that she can see much clearer when driving me home from the pub. Unbelievable - all she would want was some pointless shiny stuff to hang from her ears - what a waste of money that would be.

They are so ungrateful. I never understand women.

A pair of blades? You bought two presents? For one birthday?

Are you mad?

About 20 years ago I bought my first wife a set of hubcaps for her Fiat Panda to mark the occasion of her birthday. Not too bad an investment as they may well have added to the assessed value of her car when it came to splitting the assets ! Bought current wife a whole car for her birthday three years ago but she still won't go ! ;-)

( hubcaps do look a bit tatty now mind ! ) Christmas is a'comin' ! Whoops so's the wife ..... Bye !

She's a very lucky lady.

I bought my then girlfriend, now wife, tickets to Southampton vs. Norwich in the FA Cup (the year they lost to Arsenal) as a valentines gift, I still get reminded of it even now and not in the good way you might expect.

I don't understand, saints won, it was a lovely spring day, something for everyone.

Ho hum.

Wow, that was a really good present - nearly as good as the baking tins I was bought once, which went down REALLY well.
Sadly, that was in the early days of our marriage and things have only deteriorated - I only got a lemon topaz and diamond ring this year.
I thought for his birthday I would buy him some really good mats for my car, now he doesn't drive.

Forgive my ignorance but what's a lemon topaz ?
Is that some new duck type toilet cleaner ?
Wife's birthday - deepwith
lol - have to ask your nearest female!
Wife's birthday - deepwith
As you have not had the answer yet, lemon topaz, diamonds and such sparklies are the keys that open the door to limitless domestic labour hours - cheap when you consider the labour costs of a motor mechanic.

Tee-hee deepwith. One could add that faulty servicing resulting in scrapping or warranty claims is rarer in houses than garages, relatively speaking.

Indeed.
This is an instance where going to your local independent for servicing is not advisable.

They have products to clean toilets now?

Yes its called a wife. The Mk2 model Irons your shirts as well..

All you need to do to keep them running is buy them practical gifts twice a year.

For some reason mine requires these little gifts, normally accompanied by flowers, at least four times a year or life becomes unpleasant!

Just to warn you for the next birthday ;-)
A standard Bosch wiper blade will NOT work ( it is too stiff and will not follow the contour) on the rear screen of a Focus.

I may be missing something here. You think your wife's safety requires a new set of wiper blades, then you wait until her birthday to hand them over.
Just as well they are on the car now - I know where SWMBO would shove them if I'd done that...

But they were *aerotwins*!

Thanks for all the replies. It seems that most people agree that I am a generous and thoughtfull chap.

Last Christmas I bought her 4 new tyres, Michelins, not some cheapo stuff. I always fill the car up with Shell Xtra diesel and use Castrol oil. So you see I keep spoiling her (that's the wife and the car).

I have driven the Focus this afternoon and noticed that the brakes aren't as good as they used to be. This has given me a fantastic idea for her next Christmas present.

Delphi or Mintex of course as reccommended by Aprilia.

Quizman, I think you are ultra considerate, after all you want to know she's been well looked after, when it comes to trading the old girl in for a newer /better model, just remind the wife of that

You cool devil, you! I can see that this is only a prequel to next year's birthday when you will again present her with wiper blades ..... then, just as she is about to hit you, you gently guide her outside to witness you fitting them onto her new Porsche Boxter.

Anyone remember ne getting Mrs V, her Christmas present, after she got her new Mx5?

She TRULY enjoyed her days driving experience/assesment, with her Police officer, Class 1 driver.

& I'm still here to tell you about it, despite other Broomers, unheeded warnings!!

APOCRYPHAL

I woke up this morning to find all my clothes from last night freshly washed and pressed next to the bed. A vacuum flask on the bedside table had a note on it saying 'out of fresh eggs and bacon, gone to get some. I hope the coffee's still fresh and warm, paracetemol in the drawer'
I showered and dressed and went downstairs where son was having his breakfast, and asked "what's going on"?
He replied: You came home last night, steaming. You vomited over the new three-piece before passing out. Mum and me had to carry you up to bed. As she was undressing you, you shouted "get off you slag, I'm a happily married man".

Sorry mods, absolutely no motoring link!

I did the same for Mrs O and she thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciated having someone in the car who didn't constantly criticise! I am...shall we say...a poor passenger, and an excellent back seat driver. Giving her decent refresher driving lessons has helped her confidence no end.

My wife wants a short break for her 50th. So out of the goodness of my heart I,m looking at Lake Como (Moto Guzzi factory just happens to be near by.Well I never new that. What a suprise). Haven,t researched it yet so any info would be helpful (begining of Sept this year). Oh the sacrifices us men have to make. If there are any similar suggestions please let me know (needs to sound like a non motoring break though).

If you drive, and go via Mulhouse in Eastern France, the Schlumpf collection of Bugattis, now owned by the French government, is nearby. Nothing much else to recommend Mulhouse though.

Be careful quizman - she is going to think you are a softie soon and she can just have whatever she wants. You will give the rest of us a bad name with our currents.

See TVM's link, then bear in mind that the Ferrera Rocha factory is in Turin (Torino), as is heaps of 'culture' as in shroud etc etc ...........need I say more?

I bought my wife car mats a few years ago for Xmas (yes four presents at once!). As an aside there are two distinct species of flowers: those from a florist and those from a filing station. Despite the motoring connection the latter don't count apparently!

Lake Como is lovely - though it's 20 years since I went so it's probably changed a lot. We usually book our lakes and mountains hols through Crystal, though they are now the same as Thomson. Generally pretty good and accomodation has always been accurately described.

Lake Como and Como town well worth a visit. Plus riding the ferries in the summer is amusing for all the tourists trying to spot George's house....(George Clooney bought a pad there). Very stylish destination and feels very continental. Remember the Italians dress up even on holiday so leave the T shirts with logos and trainers at home....
