Stockport to Hull (P&O Ferries) Tomorrow - rtj70
Tomorrow we are meant to be travelling to Zeebrugge from Hull tomorrow evening. Looking for locals and those with knowledge of the area of Hull to comment.... At the start of the week parts of the A63 and M62 were under water. My question is how bad was it really, was there any easy way around and does anyway think it will happen again tonight?

Oh and is it even safe to leave the car in the open air car park in terms of flood water at Georges dock.

Thanks.

My main road - has all gone now.

There wasn't really a way round it as most approaches into Hull were under water.
Most of the water to the west has receded.
The car parks are probably OK as is was rain floodwater rather than super high tides.

Weather warning updated
09:10 - 30 June 2007

The Met Office has said the chance of further flooding across East Yorkshire have fallen from 60 per cent to 40 per cent.

While a severe weather warning is still in place for today, the country's top weather forecasters said the worst of the weather would now not reach East Yorkshire.

If the worst comes to the worst how about M62>M18 south>M180 east>A15 north>Humber bridge, then back onto the A63 ?
Yes its going out of your way and you have to pay the bridge toll, but Ive done that detour a few times when the M62/A63 towards Hull has been blocked for whatever reason. I don't think any of those particular bits of road flooded this time did they?

hi nick74 i dont think rtj70 will have a problem to be honest i think the main flooding was anlaby where i used to live in a 3rd dimension ,but the new link road circumnavigates this now?
mothing on the local news but i did get wet today

The A63 west of Hull was bad for a while, but fine now. I doubt it will get that bad again, its just started raining again (30-60 mins ago) but nothing like the torrential downpours we had earlier in the week.

Appreciate all the replies. Thank you. Won't be driving through any flood water I assure you ;-)

"M62>M18 south>M180 east>A15 north>Humber bridge, then back onto the A63 "

I believed earlier Barton upon Humber was at risk of flooding. The other end of the Humber Bridge?

Anyway fingers crossed :-)

Most of Barton is at a much lower level than the A15, so flooding of the town itself can happen without the A15 being seriously affected.

Blimey we're both up late!

Looking at the alternative route using the Humber Bridge, this looks like an option if need be. And I'd drive over the bridge for the first time too. Only adds 25 miles. And thinking about it, it's a suspension bridge so way above Barton where I thought of potential reported flooding - but where is the lake they're worried about??

Obviously will check things in the morning. Not sailing until 7pm but lots to do before leaving.

Yes the downside of having a lie-in on a saturday means I cant then get to sleep later on!

I'm surprised it adds as much as 25 miles to be honest, but hopefully it shouldn't come to that. The bridge is worth a trip sometime, the novelty of it wears off though when you have to spend over £1k a year on tolls to cross it !

Me too.. tee-hee! Nothing sensible or germane to add, except to say - What a service! A poster makes an enquiry at nearly my bedtime(!) , and several helpful posts appear witihn the hour - well impressive!

Just one thing though ' i think the main flooding was anlaby where i used to live in a 3rd dimension ' - please do tell bell boy...is this a particular quality of the local space-time continuum in anlaby or can you maintain this irrespective of locale?

goodnight

left Hull 0835 this morning after a mini cruise to Bruges. It was raining datsun cogs. Serious water in road. Once didn't think I was going to make it thru the puddles. However made Bradford 69 minutes and 69 miles later. A63 and M62 OK. Nearer the docks worse. Water in ferry terminal car park enough to soak your socks. All cleared up 12 miles out of Hull and mostly sunny thereafter

how long did you get in bruges brad?
did you stay another day?
did you book it well in advance to get the best deal or was money no object?
Stockport to Hull (P&O Ferries) Tomorrow - Brad
about 7 hours ( but it was enough as it's mostly walking)
nope
booked monday went friday. just over £100 each for 2 nights on board in cabin. They sometime do 2 for 1 offers; they sometimes do £64 each offers - depends on the season. They get their money out of you on the way - restaurants, shops, casino, but it's a different way to spend a weekend. Got home 0930 and other half then slept for 5 hours solid. It's also a tiring way to spend a weekend.

Thanks Brad. I'm setting off soon to give plenty of time to get there. Hope you had a good break.

I used Airmiles to pay on Friday so only paid £8 cash for the break, no meals - we're taking a picnic.

Well got back in one piece and weather apart from showers was good in Bruges. And the roads to Hull were clear but poor weather at times on the way. And far worse on the way back.

Security at the British end a lot higher than normal. On arrival not only were there police but an armoured Lan Rover and two armed police officers (if they were police) all in black with lots of weapons including Tazers. And passports checked by police officers and not port staff. And passports scanned on the way back in to the UK not just looked at.
