On many petrol peugeots of this period , they had a cable clutch, where the biting point could be adjusted by adjusting the nuts on the gearbox end of the clutch cable. If it is hydraulic clutch it should be self adjusting. On the 405, a plastic piece which the nuts pressed against sometimes wore leading to variable or changing biting points on the clutch. However not worked on a stdt.

It will almost certainly be a cable operated clutch, running on a BE1 or 3 box. It should be easy enough to adjust it - should just be nuts on the end of the cable. If it's an early car and has a BE1 box (reverse to the left of 1st) then it may well have a wierd inside-out sort of clutch operating lever with an operating rod that can take a bit of figuring out how to adjust. What's actually wrong with it? PSA cars clutch adjustments are usually specified as a certain amount of pedal travel, and this often results in the clutch being higher than the brake / throttle. Suggest you get yourself a Haynes manual. If required, the clutch shouldn't be more than £300 - should be pretty straightforward.
