S Reg Micra spare key - stevek
My Daughter needs a spare key cut for her micra. It is the type with the built in chip in the key plastic. Has this got to be a main dealer purchase?

I had one made for a P reg Micra a few years ago by Deane Security near Bolton.
It was around £25.
They 'copied' the key and didn't need to conenct to the car.

I believe it depends on the version of NATS.
For my 97 Primera they would have needed to connect to the car for around £40 all in.

Nissan is over £100 I have heard.

I assume you mean chip for the immobiliser.

Key cutters like Timpsons, or even security shops, dry cleaners and cobblers that do key cutting are your best bet, and can duplicate the coding in the chip in a matter of seconds (worryingly). Prices don't normally vary between these shops by more than a couple of pounds.

Price depends on whether the chip is encrypted - if it isn't, it'll probably be £25-£35, if it is encrypted then £55-£70.

If you want anything with remote locking/alarm control, then it's Nissan dealer i'm afraid.
