Focus 1.9 TDCi knock

Focus 1.9 TDCi knock - Oxford Mike
My wife's Focus is suffering from very noticable knock which has come on over the last month. She tends to only do short journeys so I suspect that this is due to carbon build-up. I'm tempted to try an additive such as STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner for Diesel Engines and give the car a good long motorway drive. STP (and other similar) claim that their products are suitable for common rail diesels and cats. Grateful for any comments, suggestions, experiences, etc. Car has done just over 100k - want to avoid expensive options like new injectors which involves Ford main dealer programming, etc.

Can you confirm the engine size please ? Never heard of a 1.9 TDCi on a Focus.

It's worth giving the STP a go, it does a good job in cleaning the inside of an engine. You don't need to give the car a long run on the motorway, just drive normally, the STP cleans as you drive under any conditions.

It might be worth giving it an oil change if it hasn't been done recently, My Mondeo TDCi gets noisier as the oil gets older.
