fueling adjustment - smithy
Any one got an idea how to adjust the fuelling on a tipo diesel I don't want to take it to a garage as the cost will be high. Injectors etc all check out it just puts too much diesel into the engine.

Smithy, a diesel engine is different from a petrol engine insomuch as if you put more diesel in, it will go faster and produce more power, as there is no restriction on the air drawn in. Putting too much petrol in a petrol engine will not give more power, as the air which the fuel needs to burn is restricted by the throttle. If your engine is running too quickly on idle, you will need to adjust the idle speed.
What exactly is your problem?

Yes it does smoke a grey/black colour and fuel ecenomy is about 30 miles per gallon. Apart from this it drives well. Also have a rattling noise when turning corners or when reaching 3000 rpms sounds like a rattling exhaust but its not that.

Why not try out the site which Simon recommended a few threads ago? It looks very helpful. www.auto-solve.co.uk

My guess is that your Tipo is smoking, right?

If so you should be aware that this is an inherent characteristic of Fiat indirect injection engines and is caused by the design of the cylinder head. Whereas nearly all the other manufacturers paid royalites to use the Ricardo Comet design, Fiat didn't. They went away and designed their own head and these Fiats (of which the Tipo is one) are renowned for being smoky - and not particularly good on fuel either (as far as IDI diesels go).

You could have the fuelling reduced at the injector pump, and any Bosch specialist should be able to adjust this down a bit, but you will lose power. Alternatively, you could put a little slack into the throttle cable to limit maximum throw of the pump arm - again you will lose a power.

Sounds like your car is having breathing problems. Lots of black smoke indicate combustion without enough air. Is the air filter dirty? Is the turbo working alright? Why not fit a boost gauge and see what it's doing. I would advise against adjusting the fuel pump. You already have a fueling device which you operate with the right foot. That would cure the symptom but not the disease. Under what conditions do you get black smoke? Is it only under acceleration, because thats normal. Also, what brand of fuel are you using? Tesco?
